The Apple Cactus is a large thorny columnar cactus native to South America. This plant is attractive to bees, butterflies and birds. It is drought tolerant and suitable for scattering. The cactus has a tree-like appearance, with cylindrical green-blue stems that can reach 33 ft (10m) in height. Its flowers are nocturnal but remain open for only one night.
